Here’s to you…

I met a man named Jack yesterday (July 4th). It started as a suspicious person call. He was had been hanging out in one of the local parks for several hours, and the mayor was getting worried about him.

I talked to him, and asked him what he was doing. He was sitting on a park bench, in the shade, with his pet cat at his feet. He had 2 books with him, that turned out to be government books.

He kindly stated “I don’t mean to be a bother, but I was sitting here in the shade reading the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, to remind me where we came from. Too often people forget about their roots, and their history. I think most of the politicians today forgot about how our government was formed and started, to be free from the oppressive King so each man could live how they wanted. I think each passing day we are becoming more and more what they fought to free themselves of. Oh well. I’m rambling. I’m going to go home and enjoy the rest of the holiday. I hope you do the same, sir.”

Jack, I know you’ll never read this, but you are a true inspiration in these hard times. I believe you are what is right in society, and we need more good people like you.

  1. Greetings from Falls County,
Thanks for this Jay. I’ve been needing to read something like this for a while now.

  2. David Cruise Says:

The man is correct. Whenever I hear anybody say that America is a christian nation, I flinch. That same kind of ignorant assumption is exactly what drove America to independence, and drove the founding fathers to be so precise in the authorship of the only thing which makes America great – the Constitution.

    Here’s to you, Jack.
