Cruise Control

Posted in Uncategorized on July 21, 2011 by Jay

PSA from your favorite Deputy, to help you avoid a speeding ticket:

Cruise control sets the speed at which you drive when on a flat surface. However, engaging the cruise control doesn’t turn off all the laws of physics when it comes to hills, especially going down them. You may have set it at “72”, but when you go down a hill, the cruise control doesn’t slow your vehicle down to compensate for gravity pulling your vehicle down the hill. It may compensate going up by changing gears and increasing power, but not going down.

Either way, you are still liable for your speed whether the cruise control is set or not.

Thank you.

(I got a 90 in a 65 last night that way. It’ll be a $350 ticket if they pay it.)

I was reading a review about the last Harry Potter movie that is being released today, errr tomorrow, or whenever it comes out (I don’t keep up with movie releases).

Anyway, a 16 year old girl (I clicked through her profile which was linked to her unsecure Facebook account, but thats for another article) commented on the article saying she was upset that the movie reviewer “ruined” the ending to the movie.

I was speechless. I sat slackjawed at my screen, dumbfounded. I couldn’t believe she was upset that he had “ruined” the ending. If you’ve read the books, or at least wikipedia’d the plot summary, you know how it ends. The movie isn’t going to deviate from the ending much. The people that died in the book, will die in the movie. Sure, dialog and some sequences may be changed, but it’s going to largely be the same, like the previous movies compared to their books.

However, this isn’t the first time this has happened. When I was a senior in high school, the remake of King Kong was released. A good friend of mine pissed off the entire class by saying how it was going end. One of the girls in the class asked how he knew the ending when the movie hadn’t even been released yet. He said, “Look, this movie has been out for over 70 years. Everyone knows how he dies. It’s not a secret. Look up the movie from the 1930s and thats what you’ll be going to see, just with better special effects.”  Well, after most of the class had seen the movie, they came back upset because he “ruined” the ending.

And the problem is, as remakes are becoming more popular, we’ll see it more and more.

I guess some people really are that stupid…

Here’s to you…

I met a man named Jack yesterday (July 4th). It started as a suspicious person call. He was had been hanging out in one of the local parks for several hours, and the mayor was getting worried about him.

I talked to him, and asked him what he was doing. He was sitting on a park bench, in the shade, with his pet cat at his feet. He had 2 books with him, that turned out to be government books.

He kindly stated “I don’t mean to be a bother, but I was sitting here in the shade reading the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, to remind me where we came from. Too often people forget about their roots, and their history. I think most of the politicians today forgot about how our government was formed and started, to be free from the oppressive King so each man could live how they wanted. I think each passing day we are becoming more and more what they fought to free themselves of. Oh well. I’m rambling. I’m going to go home and enjoy the rest of the holiday. I hope you do the same, sir.”

Jack, I know you’ll never read this, but you are a true inspiration in these hard times. I believe you are what is right in society, and we need more good people like you.

I’m crankin’ the nerd knob to 11 for this one.

Been a while since I played, but yes, I used to play D&D.

I saw a shirt once many years ago I wish I would’ve bought. It was a tannish/brown, and in old english, it had “Don’t make me roll initiative!” on the front and a picture of a D20 displaying the 20 on the back near the top of the shirt collar. Beneath that it said “Ha! Natural 20!”.
