Time for “And More”…

Yes, yes, I know that I’ve been blogging a lot lately about the academy, guns, and ammo, so I’m going to delve into the “And More” part of the reason why I created this blog.

I was standing in line with the Girl at a local HEB buying my grocery supply for the month, when out of nowhere, this college chick,  jabbering away on her cell phone with an armful of boxes, cuts in front of me and 2 other people. She goes to put her things on the belt, when I go to stop her. The Girl grabs my wrist and says no, let it go, but I can’t. So I walk over to her, and gently tap her on the shoulder. She turns around, takes a small step, and says in a weak voice whats up? So, the conversation continues thusly:

  • Me: Ma’am, are you aware that you just cut in line? You didn’t just cut in front of me, but you also cut in front of 2 other people.
  • Chick: Oh well, no, I just had a couple things, I won’t be long.
  • Me: I don’t care if you had a couple things or a couple basketfuls of things, you still need to wait in line like everyone else.
  • Chick: Well, uh, *rolls eyes*, you don’t have to be an asshole about it.
  • Me: I’m sorry you feel that way, but you still have to wait in line.

At that point, she called me a “a raving dickhead” and stormed out of the store.

Anyway, it proves a point that I’ve been trying to tell people for years. Society has changed. Serving others and being polite has gone out the door for “me first”. People don’t give a shit about other people anymore. People are all about “#1” (meaning themselves, for those who haven’t heard that term before).

I see it day in and day out driving around town. At a 4 way stop sign, people go when they want to go, while ignoring the unspoken rule of shittiest car goes first, or even the actual traffic laws. I got cut off on the highway one time because a guy got on the on ramp, and rather than waiting for me to pass, merged anyway. Some of the worst offenders of this are at amusement parks. Time and time again I see people cutting in line, using phony excuses to get their money back when they lost at a game, or abusing park security help to get from one place to the next.

Anywho, I think this is part of the reason why our society is spiralling down the toliet bowl.

One Response to “Time for “And More”…”

  1. I use opportunities like this to do a few things:

    1. Remind myself to be better than that. If that sort of behavior pisses me off, not only don’t be that way, but be far better.

    2. An opportunity to teach my children how not to behave, and then how they ought to behave.

Be the change you want to see in the world (and teach others thusly). :-)
